Student Diagnosed with Whooping Cough at JLHS

The district was notified today that a student at Jackson Liberty High School has tested positive for pertussis, which is commonly known as whooping cough. The student affected has received the appropriate treatment and is no longer contagious.

Pertussis is a highly contagious disease that is spread through the air by a cough or a sneeze. It begins with cold symptoms and a cough, which become much worse over 1-2 weeks. Symptoms usually include a long series of coughing fits followed by a “whooping’’ noise. However, older children, adults and very young infants may not develop the whoop. There is generally only a slight fever.

We have been in contact with the Ocean County Health Department and we will continue to monitor the situation in our district. If additional cases arise, we will again notify parents.

We encourage you to read the district letter below, which includes important health information for parents and staff that can be used to monitor your own health and the health of your children.

Jackson School District Curriculum Online

We are proud to announce the launch of a new website that has a searchable database of the approved curriculum in the Jackson School District.

This resource, known as the
Rubicon Atlas Curriculum Program, provides public access to our most up-to-date curriculum, including overviews of content by grade level, unit summaries and the essential questions students are expected to be able to answer upon completion of each unit.

To get started, click on the icon above. Select the “Browse’’ tab to see a list of courses, or begin searching by grade and subject on your own.

For now, the site features our complete curriculum in the areas of English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Physical Education and Health and World Language. This site will be a living database that will be updated as we update our curriculum to be fully aligned with state standards. (e.g. Science, Music, Art, Business, Technology).

We are proud of our curriculum and we hope you will enjoy being able to take a first-hand look at all the ways we strive to help students excel.

Principal's Message

February 5, 2016

Dear Johnson Families,

Good afternoon, I hope everyone enjoyed the week.  On Monday, we celebrated students with good character during the Character Round-Up.  Today was the first day for the Book Fair and it will continue through Thursday of next week.  Tonight from 7 to 9 PM, the PTO is hosting the Sweetheart Dance. I’m sure it will be a wonderful time.

Next Tuesday, February 9th, we are looking forward to our Book Fair Night from 6 to 9 PM and Healthy Food Tasting from 7 to 8 PM.  Please come out and support nutrition and good health habits while you visit the Book Fair!

As a reminder, all students are expected to report to school on Friday, February 12th, the In-service day was canceled.  Report Cards will be available on the portal for parents to view Friday, February 12th.

FYI for Parents:  District Evaluating New Approach to Active Shooter Drills

The district wants to let our parents know we are evaluating a new approach to how we could handle an active shooter situation. This approach or plan, which has gained national attention, is referred to as A.L.I.C.E., and includes additional strategies and options we may decide to employ in our district. Please take a moment
